Basil@ Sheraton Sukhumvit
The ambience at Basil has been specially designed to complement the flavours that the chefs prepare in the kitchen. Portions are extremely generous and the food is refined with the Thai chef integrating a multitude of aromatic spices. The spicy and sour prawn soup is redolent with lemongrass, chillies and a savoury edge from coconut. The steamed fish with the chilli and lime dressing is supremely good and underscores the Thai way of using spices. No one else does such a good Som Tam and Khao Tang Na Tang, lightly crisp Thai rice crackers with a delicious coconut base dip of minced coconut and shrimp. Traditional desserts make for a sweet ending to a potentially fiery meal.

Srabua By Kiin Kiin @ Kempinski
This restaurant is the sister branch of Copenhagen’s Kiin Kiin which is the second restaurant in the world to receive a Michelin star for Thai cuisine. Some of the  interesting dishes include quail in coconut milk with galangal and mushrooms, with crispy chicken skin and galangal-like broth; red snapper in green coconut curry and beetroot; and the pistachio cake with Pandan ice cream and coconut foam is an absolute must-try dessert. You could opt for a seven or ten course dinner from the set menu (the restaurant is also open for a three-course lunch) and guessing the food which arrives on your table is half the fun.

Gaggan
Who goes to Bangkok for an Indian meal? Well, this one is worth your time and money. Chef Gaggan presents progressive, regional Indian cuisine with a modern touch. The show stopper was yoghurt with cumin, salt and pepper. It is a slippery and oval sphere of yoghurt encased in agar-agar. Once in the mouth the sphere bursts and an explosion of creaminess from the yoghurt and the light flavour of cumin, salt and pepper spread throughout the mouth. A star of a dish was an edible bag made of rice paper and filled with wasabi flavoured beans and dried fruit. Interesting textures from the melting rice paper, crunchiness of the beans and chewiness of the fruit – the combination of flavours is amazing.
